Hepworth J & I School is friendly, community school in a beautiful rural setting. Staff are dedicated, parents supportive and pupils wonderful. We have a vacancy to start in September 2026 to support a Reception Year pupil with an EHCP. This role involves providing 1-1 support for a child with Down syndrome, who is a delight to work with and a valued member of our school community. The hours to be covered would be 8.30am to 3.30pm on a Fixed Term contract initially until August 2027. We will consider full-time applicants or two job share applicants.

We are looking for some who:

  • Is creative in their approach to children's learning
  • Is enthusiastic and dedicated to enabling every child to fulfil their potential
  • Has experience of Makaton (is desirable)
  • Has experience of supporting an individual pupil (is desirable)
  • Is friendly and able to form strong relationships
  • Is able to work in a team and adapt their practice
  • Is able to set and achieve high standards and expectations of learning, behaviour and care
  • Commit to safeguarding and pupil welfare

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support in the classroom and during activities
  • Assist with early learning tasks including literacy, English, and play-based learning
  • Support speech, language, and social development
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
  • Help implement the child’s EHCP
  • Promote inclusion, independence, and confidence
